The Root of Wellness Runs Deep

In traditional Chinese culture, the word "root" (本) carries profound meaning. It originally referred to the root of a plant—the source of life. As the ancient saying goes, "To help a tree grow strong, you must first nourish its roots." The foundational classic of Chinese medicine, The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon, teaches that "When upright energy exists within, pathogens cannot invade," emphasizing the importance of strengthening internal health and prevention over treatment. These time-honored ideas have given rise to a rich and enduring tradition of Chinese wellness, passed down through generations.

As a fourth-generation member of the Lee Kum Kee family, Lee Wai Sum was deeply influenced by Chinese culture from a young age. He was taught to "never forget your roots."In the 1990s, while observing the global popularity of Japanese and Korean herbal wellness brands, he wondered why the deep knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine hadn’t yet gained similar recognition in Chinese communities. "Why can’t we carry forward the wisdom our ancestors left us?" he asked.

Planting the Seeds of Wellness

In 1992, Lee Wai Sum and his father, Lee Man Tat, partnered with the First Military Medical University to launch Infinitus—formally entering the wellness space. Since then, Infinitus has developed a range of high-quality herbal products, including its signature Oriherb Health Tonic, with the aim of promoting Chinese health culture.

As the brand grew, Lee Wai Sum realized that products alone weren’t enough—lasting health also requires a change in mindset and lifestyle. Infinitus introduced the guiding principle "Balance Within, Wellness for Life," translating complex traditional theories into simple, actionable health practices that fit modern life. With technology rapidly advancing, Lee Wai Sum spent two years visiting universities and health institutions around the world, dedicating over 1,000 hours to research and study. He discovered growing global interest in Chinese medicine and wellness philosophies. This only strengthened his belief that Chinese wellness culture deserved global recognition.

The Birth of Oriherb

In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped daily life, interest in traditional wellness surged. During months of remote work, Lee Wai Sum revisited classic texts and affirmed a personal commitment: "Sharing Chinese wellness culture is the right path—and one worth pursuing."

In 2022, on the 30th anniversary of Infinitus, a new brand was born: Oriherb. The name stems from the phrase "Balance Within, Wellness for Life," symbolizing the brand’s roots in the health philosophy of Infinitus. Oriherb is based on the principles of the "Three Adjustments"—strengthening vital energy, balancing yin and yang, and regulating organ function—paired with the "Four Lifestyle Guidelines" to help modern people build long-term health from the inside out. Infinitus will continue to grow the Oriherb brand by combining classical formulas with modern technology to create effective, science-backed herbal health products—establishing Oriherb as a new global voice for Chinese wellness.

Balance Within, Wellness for Life

Oriherb’s wellness philosophy bridges ancient Chinese wisdom with modern life. Inspired by 5,000 years of Chinese health culture, it offers a practical approach to daily wellness—helping people live healthier from the inside out.

Balance Within

"Balance Within" is rooted in the Chinese concept of nourishing and strengthening one’s internal foundation. In Chinese medicine, good health begins by supporting the body’s core systems. When the foundation is strong, the body can thrive.

Wellness for Life

The ultimate value of Oriherb’s philosophy is not just in feeling better, but in building a life of balance—where health, family, and work can coexist in harmony.

Balance Yin and Yang – The Key to Health
Balance Yin and Yang – The Key to Health

Yin and yang are fundamental concepts in Chinese medicine—representing opposing but complementary forces in the body. As stated in The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon, “Life originates in the balance of yin and yang.” When these energies are in harmony, the body functions well; when they’re not, illness may arise. Restoring yin-yang balance promotes warmth, vitality, and strength.

Strengthen Vital Energy (Zheng Qi) – The Foundation of Health

Zheng Qi refers to the body’s ability to adapt, defend against disease, and self-heal. As The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon says: “When Zheng Qi is strong, pathogens cannot invade.” When the body lacks vital energy, we are more prone to illness. Strengthening Zheng Qi helps reduce illness, speed recovery, and improve resilience.

Regulate the Organs – The Basis of Health

In Chinese medicine, the organs (zang-fu) each play a role in maintaining life. When they work together in harmony, the body functions optimally. If even one is out of balance, health may deteriorate. The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon teaches: “The five organs are the guardians of life.” Regulating and coordinating organ function is key to long-term wellness.
